Villa Ticca: Child care in Ecuador
In 2002 Evelyn Kremer and Mariska Versteegh met in Ecuador where they both worked as volunteers. The confrontation with the severe shortage of help for minors and single mothers in Quito struck them deeply. Aimlessly and without a future and hope they go through life. The hands were stuck together and the foundation "Ninos the WaitaTicca" was soon a fact. Now, in 2013, the foundation exists ten years.
150 children in the age of 0-12 years are coming monday untill friday to one of the two locations in Ecuador. One childcare you'll find in the capital Quito and the other in Peguche, a small Indigenous Community north of Otavalo. The children are educated, fed, clothed and taken care of, and they receive medical and psychological help. The after school group ensures that the older children can continue their studies. Villa Ticca also tries to advise mothers and families about nutrition and training. Villa Ticca provides for their children a safe place!
