Who are we?
Foundation Niños de Waita Ticca is a Dutch organisation operating a childcare in Ecuador. Since 2003 we have helped children of poor families, adolescents and single mothers in the south of Quito. In the childcare every day many children are given a safe place at the center which is operated by five Ecuadorian employees who teach and feed the children. The trip will be guided by someone who is directly involved with Villa Ticca.

Day 1 - Saturday - Quito:
You will be picked up on arrival at the airport and transferred to your hotel. At lunch or dinner you will meet the other participants followed by an information session. The rest of the day can be used to get use to the altitude and get some rest.

Day 2 - Sunday - Quito:
Today you go to an open air museum just outside of Quito which is located exactly on the equator. It’s called Mitad del Mundo, meaning middle of the world.

VT QuitoDay 3 - Monday - Quito:
Early in the morning you go to Villa Ticca and you will get to know the staff and the children in the child care. You receive a tour and help in different groups and / or in the kitchen. In the afternoon you will visit some mothers of the children in their home to get an idea of their way of life. Before visiting the mothers we will buy food from the supermarket or local market and create food packages to give to them. After the visits you return to the cozy neighbourhood of La Mariscal where our hostel is. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 4 - Tuesday - Quito:
Early in the morning you go to Villa Ticca and you will help different groups and / or in the kitchen. After the (late) lunch in the daycare you return to La Mariscal. The rest of the afternoon is at your leisure. At 19:00 you will have a salsa lesson.

Day 5 - Wednesday - Quito:
Early in the morning you go to Villa Ticca. You will help out in different groups or in the kitchen. After lunch you return to La Mariscal. In the afternoon we take a stroll through the beautiful historic center of Quito and visit the cathedral, La Basilica. In the evening there is option to go out dancing in a salsa club.

Day 6 - Thursday - Quito/Peguche:
Early in the morning you leave for Villa Ticca. You will help out in the different groups. After lunch you will take a local bus to Peguche, a village north of Quito. This is an indigenous community near Otavalo.

Day 7 - Friday - Peguche:
In the morning you can take a horse ride through the beautiful Andes. We will visit El Lechero, a sacred tree at Lake San Pablo. In the afternoon we visit a traditional shaman who gives us a demonstration of cleansing rituals.

Day 8 - Saturday – Peguche:
All day we enjoy the atmosphere, the colors and the music of the biggest Indian market in South America in Otavalo. In the evening there is the possibility to enjoy a meal with live traditional music.

Day 9 - Sunday - Peguche:
Today we do a village tour visiting several villages near Otavalo, each with their own unique skills and trade such as millinery, music, leather manufacturing, weaving and so on. We have a traditional lunch at an Indian family.

Day 10 - Monday - Peguche/Quito: limpia
In the morning we take a walk through a eucalyptus forest to the waterfall of Peguche where the Indians undergo a cleansing ritual once a year. Following this we have a workshop to make our own dreamcatcher. At the end of the afternoon we will take the local bus back to Quito.

Day 11 - Tuesday - Quito:
Early in the morning we go to Villa Ticca and we help different groups and / or in the kitchen. After lunch we return to La Mariscal, the afternoon you have time on your own. In the evening there will be an Ecuadorian cooking workshop.

Day 12 - Wednesday - Quito:
Early in the morning we go to Villa Ticca and we help different groups and / or in the kitchen. After lunch we return to La Mariscal. In the afternoon we visit the Teleferico; a cable car that takes you to an altitude of more than four kilometers and presents you a breathtaking view of Quito and the surrounding mountains. The evening is at your leisure.

Day 13 - Thursday - Quito:
Early in the morning we go to Villa Ticca and we help different groups and / or in the kitchen. We say goodbye to the children and staff and after lunch we return to La Mariscal. The afternoon and evening are free time.

Day 14 - Friday - Quito:
To end the journey together either before you start your extension or you go back home, we go visit Cotopaxi volcano (if it’s safe to enter and it’s not active, when it’s not safe we will offer an alternative). We leave early in the morning to the Cotopaxi National Park. The bus takes us up to the parking lot at 4500 meters altitude and from there we walk up to the snow line at 4800 meters. Then we descend this beautiful volcano on mountain bikes.

Day 15 - Saturday - Quito:
On this day you will fly back home or maybe you will travel on your own in Ecuador or South America.

For all the days that we visit Villa Ticca: you can help out in the groups of children or in the kitchen, but if you prefer to contribute in another way, there are several other possibilities. . Here you will find a list of all kinds of work you could do at Villa Ticca!

Included: Pick up service from airport, transportation during travel, accommodation with breakfast, volunteering in Villa Ticca, lunches at Villa Ticca, 2x lunch during activities, all mentioned excursions,professional Dutch / English / Spanish speaking guidance.
Not included: booking fee (€ 25), flight to Ecuador, travel insurance, vaccinations, personal expenses for extra nights before or after the program, etc., evening meals and any extra trips. This trip will take place only if at least five bookings have been made.
